Hallux valgus deformity

The so-called hallux valgus the first toe is the deviation of the first toe outward, to the side.I think many of us know what such a deformation looks like, which is most often found in older people.But why does this bone start to protrude in some people and not in others?Let's try to understand it.

Reasons     

There are several factors that influence development "bumps" with age we list some:   

  • transverse flat foot;  
  • genetic predisposition;  
  • wearing narrow shoes (pointed shoes, toes that are too short - anything that does not offer the necessary space for the toes);  
  • improperly chosen shoes (too high heels or lack of orthopedic insoles, if necessary);  
  • endocrine disorders;  
  • osteoporosis;  
  • congenital weakness of connective and bone tissues.  

Symptoms      

You should be cautious and carefully examine your feet if:   

  • there is pain in the joints of the feet;  
  • your legs get tired quickly;  
  • you have difficulty choosing shoes;  
  • there is a visible deformation of the foot;

If you notice these changes, you should see a podiatrist and be sure to take x-rays and impressions to check for flat feet.Therefore, if you or your children have flat feet, it is advisable to monitor the course of the pathology from a young age, namely: choosing the right shoes, doing massages and regularly visiting an orthopedist.People with flat feet are at a much higher risk of developing this deformity.

Prevention

  • examination by an orthopedist for timely detection of flat feet;
  • wear shoes without stiletto and pointed heels);
  • mandatory use of orthopedic insoles;
  • Physical therapy.

Remember that if you do nothing, the disease will develop into chronic bursitis (inflammation) and arthrosis.Also, if the disease is in an advanced stage, surgery may be necessary.
